Editorial Policy & Corrections

Hastings Talk aims to be open, warm and community-minded. We cover local happenings in a natural, human voice, while keeping claims measured and information useful.

What we cover

We publish local stories, business guides, restaurant recommendations, independent shops, coastal attractions and community activities. Our aim is to help readers discover local places and services, whether they live here or are planning a visit.

Hastings and its neighbours

We distinguish Hastings town centre from the Old Town, where George Street, High Street, the twittens and The Stade have their own history and commercial life. White Rock and Pelham Place are separate seafront areas. Ore, Clive Vale, Blacklands, Hollington and Ore Valley are distinct residential localities. Silverhill sits around the boundary between Hastings and St Leonards-on-Sea, so we verify exact addresses. St Leonards—including Warrior Square, Norman Road and Kings Road—has its own town identity and is included in wider-area guides only where relevant.

Battle is a separate town. The Battle of Hastings in 1066 took place in the area near Battle, not in Hastings town centre. We treat Hastings Castle as a Hastings landmark and do not conflate it with the battlefield. Hastings Country Park is on the eastern edge; the coast and its hills have gradients, access arrangements and safety considerations that vary by route.

Hastings Borough Council and East Sussex County Council have distinct responsibilities. Conquest Hospital is in St Leonards-on-Sea and serves Hastings and the surrounding area. We identify organisations and locations accurately, and use current official information for public services.

Sources and current details

Where practical, we use sources close to the subject, including a business’s own information, relevant council and NHS pages, venue and organiser announcements, and transport operators. Businesses, shop tenants, opening times, event schedules, cliff railway operations, pier access and coastal conditions can change. We check current details where feasible and encourage readers to confirm important information before travelling or relying on it.

We do not invent businesses, ratings, customer comments, prices, opening hours or event dates. We verify current venue operations and distinguish historical names from present-day institutions. We describe the fishing community factually and do not imply that a heritage display is an active business. We avoid unsupported claims about crime, health outcomes, property values, resident demographics or individual organisations.

Recommendations and commercial relationships

A listing or recommendation is not automatically paid for or endorsed. If content is sponsored or has another commercial relationship, we will identify it clearly. Commercial arrangements do not by themselves determine our editorial view.

Corrections

To report a possible error, email [email protected]. Include the page address, the detail in question and a reliable source if possible. We review correction requests and update material errors where appropriate. Minor edits may be made without a separate note; substantial corrections may be identified on the page.

A request does not automatically require removal or amendment. We consider accuracy, relevance, privacy, safety and the public interest. We do not publish private personal information or unverified allegations about individuals.

Scope

Our guides are selective, not a complete directory. Inclusion is not a guarantee of quality, availability or suitability, and absence is not criticism. Confirm important details with the relevant business, venue, organiser or authority before making a decision.
